It’s a Yard Sale, Y’all!

This past Friday morning I got up early, donned my closest approximation of Southern Lady-wear, and headed over to the Southern Weddings Magazine yard sale event. Brides, if you don’t know this magazine and the associated website, you absolutely must take a peek… the lovely ladies who run it have an amazing eye for style…

Emily @ Southern Weddings - Love this recap, Annemie! Thanks so much for stopping by!

kate - Thanks for this post! How had I not heard of this magazine?! What a great resource from what appears to be a great and fun group of women.

Howdy from the SW Yard Sale :: Reader Pics! « Southern Weddings Magazine - [...] (apologies if we missed someone!): Annemie of Megapixie Photography (who posted her own recap here!), Sarah from A Southern Season, Becca from Rebecca Rose Events, Megan (whose wedding we just [...]

Annemie - Emily: My pleasure… it was great to meet you and see your new digs! I’ll be in touch soon :D

Annemie - Molly: Right?!? Of course, they’d carry variable value based (as far as I’m concerned) on the amount of butter inside. Oh, delicious butter…

Annemie - Joda: I just call ‘em like I see ‘em :D

joda - COOL!!! If you aren’t writing articles for this magazine, it would be a shock. Your description of the magazine, the people behind the publication and your photos are PR heaven. Keep up the great posts to your blog… always enjoyable.

Molly - I love that they accept biscuits as payment. My firm should consider that.

Whitney @ Southern Weddings - Annemie, thank you so much for this wonderful write-up! We are so happy that you stopped by. Be sure to keep in touch!

Krista - So neat! I didn’t know about that magazine but will definitely pick it up when the time comes:) I think your pics from Julia’s wedding would be perfect for Southern Weddings!

Thought Bubbles (Part Two)

One thing no one told me would happen when I became a mother is that the love I would feel for my children would at times be very much like the love-sick, moony-eyed aching you feel when you first fall in love romantically. I expected to love my children. I had heard people say “you…

Amy Bourne - Ok, that brought a tear to my eye. Nicely said.

Kim Rogers - Beautiful. I know exactly how you feel.

Erin - So lovely Annemie.

Bert - Such sweet photos and such insightful sentiments, beautifully expressed. You know what I’m sayin’? Yes, I do.

Matt (the husband/father) - Somehow you express the things I feel so eloquently.

The love I have for our children is just so DIFFERENT from anything I’ve ever experienced before. Being in love romantically is a similar feeling, but for me there’s something else that is very hard to put my finger on. There’s a level of connection (maybe it’s protectiveness?) that is somehow beyond what I have felt romantically. As I was standing next to you watching you capture these amazing images, I felt the same kind of overflowing in-love-ness that you’re talking about above, both for you and for our boys. I love you all so much, and Annemie I’m proud of your talent, both with words and with images. I less than three you.

Terri Keefer - LOVE LOVE LOVE these! Amazing work!

Julie Cavanar-Hining - I’m getting close, and you’re going to push me over the edge.

Flannery Fontinell - Just beautiful. Wish you still lived nearby to document all the goings on in my world. I think you’d make it look better than it is.

Kenna Klosterman - STUNNING! I’m totally going to copy you on the bubbles Annemie – biggest for of flattery! Cheers from Seattle!

Heather - Your boys are so lucky to have a mom (and a dad) who appreciate them the way you do and express it so beautifully. This one made me choke up, Annemie!

Krista - So adorable! I love that age when everything is a new discovery! Those special everyday moments are such a gift.

Laura Prochnow Phillips - Fine. Make me cry. Again.

(When do I get to chomp on Judah’s belly?)

amanda - these pictures are just too stinkin’ cute.

Earth Day

Those of you who know me know that I don’t eat meat, but not everyone knows why. I’m not generally one to browbeat, and in this, as in all the facets of my life, I try not to judge other people and the choices they make. However, today, inspired by Earth Day (and coincidentally Good…

Ryan McHugh - Anna, your photo-essay post was great! I had no idea you were a veggie. I’ve been for 10 years. It’s nice to hear we share some of the same values. Hope you and the fams are doing well!

Rebecca - “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”-Ghandi That’s always been a favorite of mine especially living in a nation caught up in its greatness and moral character. As you know from high school, I’ve spent a great number of years as a vegetarian only to have broken this over the past couple of years. No, my beliefs and convictions have not change. I’m just horrible at being a vegetarian. I’m not very good at keeping up with the dietary exchanges. This was fine when I was young and healthy. But now that I find myself chronically ill and on about ten medications at any given time it just doesn’t work. So I have to humbly break form and eat chicken and dairy from time to time. This provides me with the protein I need that helps with my medication absorption or replaces the protein the medication robs from my body. It’s kind of funny that chicken is all that I can stomach. Red meat and other forms of meat just really gross me out. Chicken does too if I think about it to much. So anyhow, I can’t call myself a vegetarian anymore. But I am pleased to see that other people are making the effort. One more interesting fact and I will stop rambling. A couple of weeks ago, I watched a documentary on Seventh Day Adventists. It turned out being more of an infomercial for their health care system in Florida than it was an actual documentary on the religion but anyhow, I digress. One thing they pointed out, is that followers of that faith are living longer and are more productive into their later years than other Americans. They attribute this to the vegetarian diet that they adhere to their entire lives as part of their faith. It’s never too late to educate anyone. My mom grew up in rural western New York. Her brother used to raise rabbits for them to eat. As most of you know, I have a pet bunny. When my mom first caught wind of this, she was confused. She wondered, why in the hell would I want to have a bunny and not eat it. Bit by bit, I would tell her things the rabbit would do. I would tell her about the rabbits personality. Now she buys the rabbit things. She sees how cute it is. Now, when she looks at it, she doesn’t see dinner.

Heather - Annemie, what a beautiful and important post. Your photo essay has my jaw on the floor. Such gorgeous tones, thoughtful composition, THE LIGHT and the very special moments you captured for these animals (especially that last little smiling pig!). I feel proud to know you and be able to comment on this post after sharing a lovely vegetarian meal with you last week. I share all of the very same sentiments you shared here and I can’t thank you enough for crafting such a heartfelt, yet wonderfully written message for the world. I can’t wait to forward this to everyone I know. My only regret is that I didn’t see it sooner! Thanks Annemie! As usual, amazing writing and photography.

Terri Keefer & Genesis Moss - OMG!!! We love piggies and this is ABSOLUTELY the BEST piggie photo ever! Looks like Babe…. we want to put it on our wall. Sell us one? xo
