In the Garden

When Katie asked me whether we could have her family session at the Duke Gardens, I hesitated. One of the biggest handicaps on a shoot is a crowded location, not only because it’s hard to find unpopulated spots without random people in the background, but also – and really moreso – because a lot of…

Heather - What a sweet family! I’ve definitely experienced the audience phenomenon at Duke Gardens. Looks like you made the absolute best of it, Annemie! Great photos, as usual. And you know I’ll come back fo’ mo’!

Thought Bubbles (Part Two)

One thing no one told me would happen when I became a mother is that the love I would feel for my children would at times be very much like the love-sick, moony-eyed aching you feel when you first fall in love romantically. I expected to love my children. I had heard people say “you…

Amy Bourne - Ok, that brought a tear to my eye. Nicely said.

Kim Rogers - Beautiful. I know exactly how you feel.

Erin - So lovely Annemie.

Bert - Such sweet photos and such insightful sentiments, beautifully expressed. You know what I’m sayin’? Yes, I do.

Matt (the husband/father) - Somehow you express the things I feel so eloquently.

The love I have for our children is just so DIFFERENT from anything I’ve ever experienced before. Being in love romantically is a similar feeling, but for me there’s something else that is very hard to put my finger on. There’s a level of connection (maybe it’s protectiveness?) that is somehow beyond what I have felt romantically. As I was standing next to you watching you capture these amazing images, I felt the same kind of overflowing in-love-ness that you’re talking about above, both for you and for our boys. I love you all so much, and Annemie I’m proud of your talent, both with words and with images. I less than three you.

Terri Keefer - LOVE LOVE LOVE these! Amazing work!

Julie Cavanar-Hining - I’m getting close, and you’re going to push me over the edge.

Flannery Fontinell - Just beautiful. Wish you still lived nearby to document all the goings on in my world. I think you’d make it look better than it is.

Kenna Klosterman - STUNNING! I’m totally going to copy you on the bubbles Annemie – biggest for of flattery! Cheers from Seattle!

Heather - Your boys are so lucky to have a mom (and a dad) who appreciate them the way you do and express it so beautifully. This one made me choke up, Annemie!

Krista - So adorable! I love that age when everything is a new discovery! Those special everyday moments are such a gift.

Laura Prochnow Phillips - Fine. Make me cry. Again.

(When do I get to chomp on Judah’s belly?)

amanda - these pictures are just too stinkin’ cute.

Happy Birthday, Gina!

A few months ago, Lauren contacted me to arrange a family portrait session as a birthday gift for her mother, Gina. Lauren’s was a rather unusual request for me – most often it seems that families wait for events like weddings or until there are children involved to bother with family portraits, but I give…

Kenna Klosterman - Nice work Annemie! I agree with David Carter – you did an amazing job getting 6 adults to look natural in the “posed” way! Hoooooray for Bambi! Did you do a big group shot with everyone hugging like it was the last time they were going to see each other? Love that pose from Bambi! Did you use Bambinese for your posing instructions? So much fun – thanks for sharing your work with the rest of us!

Bridget - A really nice blend of you and the lessons Bambi shared at CreativeLive. Nice work!!

megapixie - Thanks, everyone! No doubt, the timing of Bambi’s class couldn’t have been better :D Kenna – no big group hugs this time… I’ve got another big family shoot coming up soon, though – I may have to try that one out!

Bert - Quite nice. The posing and the backgrounds selected add a beautiful touch to the lovely family. The colors, vibrant yet subdued—is this possible?—are wonderful.

Molly - I know I’m late commenting, but I absolutely adore these shots! The (horizontal) one of the three girls is amazing. Can you imagine getting a present like that as a mom? I also LOVE the pix of Mom + girls, and the parents together. The backgrounds really make the photos. A++++
