5 Techniques for Creating Better Portraits (for free!) | Chapel Hill Portrait Photographer

Thank you all for your feedback on the new site! I’ve known for months that it needed to be updated, but a new website is not a small job, and I’ll admit I kept putting it off. For better or for worse, my hand was forced two weeks ago when my oh-so-well-meaning husband accidentally hit the “publish”…

Jenn - Despite knowing a bit about photography, these are great tips to improve my photos. I didn’t know about how to shoot wide open with a point and shoot, the importance of posing people at 45 degrees to the camera, or about shooting women from above and men from below. Thanks Annemie!

joda - What an informative, well written posting. Your posts are always well written and informative, but this one steals the show for info for photographers. I know I’ll use the techniques (if I can remember them) the next time I take someone’s photo. Thank you.

Annemie - So glad these were helpful! Even though I know and practice all of these techniques on a daily basis, it’s always fun to challenge myself on one in particular… say finding great color combinations or getting a set of portraits with totally different expressions.

Erin - Fantastic tips! (and gorgeous photos too)
Thanks!

kate - Your tips on posing, background and light are great. Your ability to bring so much valuable information into focus matches your wonderful photography! Thanks for sharing both!!

Rachel - Thanks, Annemie! I just ordered a book on taking better photos and video with my iphone. Once I know the best apps and all that to use, I’ll certainly be putting your tips to work! Thanks again for all your great posts!

Sneak Peek: Annalise | Raleigh Child Photographer

Marta - You really seem to have caught their joy with the picture on the hill. Nice work!

Matt - Beautiful sneak peak as always, you talented wife you… <3

Jenn - Wow those eyes are out of control – what a beautiful shot of this little girl.

stu s - hey annemie – very beautiful pics as always. the color in the first one is brilliant and the dreamy, hazy quality of the bottom one is very cool.

Bert - What beautiful photos! The shallow depth of field and crystal clarity of her eyes in the first photo is perfection. And she looks so engaged… about to ask a question or waiting for an answer.

molly - Wow! Beautiful.

Introducing: Iris | Chapel Hill Photographer

Soooo… anyone notice anything different around here? Like, maybe, everything? Anyone notice that none of my galleries are up and most of my links lead nowhere? Pretty awesome, eh? Yep: big technology snafu around here in the last week… I was planning to start playing around with a new website idea, but managed to completely…

Meg - oooooh… these are gorgeous! where would one get more information? ;)

Kate - Beautiful! What a great keepsake. Only wish I could go back in time and have my children’s photos so perfectly preserved.

Darci - You really have to hold this album to get the full impact (not that your pictures of it aren’t amazing Annemie :) ). It feels much more substantial than a regular photo album. I can’t imagine a more beautiful way to preserve Edward’s portraits.
